DE HAVILLAND

A fund established to create a permanent memorial to Sir Geoffrey de Havilland (1882-1965) is to sponsor post-graduate studies in aerospace engineering at the University of Hertfordshire at Hatfield, and erect a statue of him in the grounds of the university. The university is built on land donated by the de Havilland company in 1946. The appeal committee, whose patron is HRH the Duke of Edinburgh (pictured with de Havilland in 1956), hopes to raise £350,000 ($583,000), and has already received a substantial donation from British Aerospace.
