Epic Aircraft has selected Vision Systems’ electronically dimmable windows for its E1000 single-engined turboprop. The six-seat, high-performance aircraft is scheduled for certification and first deliveries next year.

According to Epic the windows are coated in a special solution called Nuance, which allows them to dim in less than 5s, preventing light, glare and heat from entering the aircraft.

The windows also block nearly 100% of UV light, which protects the interior from fading, Epic says. “Furthermore, these systems have no moving parts, reducing maintenance costs and downtime. They can be controlled by simply pushing a button at the window or from a control panel or personal electronic device such as a wireless tablet,” the airframer adds.

Epic is readying the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6-67A-powered E1000 for first flight later this year, and plans a major sales and marketing push for the aircraft at this month’s NBAA convention in Orlando, Florida.
