Two third-party vendors have begun installations of their class 2 electronic flight bag systems on the Airbus A320 family following European approval.

The European Aviation Safety Agency has granted supplemental type certification to Esterline CMC Electronics for its PilotView EFB and NavAero for its t-BagC2² EFB, for installation on the Airbus single-aisle models.

The PilotView STC was developed by Toulouse-based modification and design organisation Aeroconseil and the product has been launched by French charter airline Air Mediterranee. NavAero's certification and engineering activities are performed in conjunction with Scandinavian Avionics. Installations are under way and customers include Sweden's Novair, Freebird of Turkey, and Kuwaiti carrier Watanya.

The PilotView EFB enables pre-flight planning and access to aircraft checklists and flight planning information. It increases situational awareness with en-route, approach charts, moving map display and graphical real-time weather data, says Esterline.

NavAero's t-BagC2² installation consists of cross-connected dual EFBs with its t-Pad series displays. It also features 3G cellular modem for on-ground data transfer, wi-fi, and Arinc 429 connectivity to on-board systems. "Operators can utilise data from on-board systems to auto populate data for third-party charting and maintenance applications as well as initiate on ground message and data transfers for paperless operation," It adds.
