Austrian cargo airliner Amerer Air is to be the launch customer for BAE Systems Regional Aircraft’s re-launched BAe146QT (Quiet Trader) freighter aircraft.

The first aircraft for Amerer is also the first QT conversion. The airframe is a former Flybe Series 200 – msn E2099. It was completed last month at Aerostar’s facility in Bacau, Romania, and made its first flight as a freighter on June 25 to Southend, UK where it is undergoing painting and final checks before delivery.

Amerer Air currently operates a single Fokker F27-500 freighter as well as a fleet of long-distance trucks.

The QT conversion programme was restarted last year and modifications to the aircraft include installation of a large freight-door – which is manufactured by Romanian firm Avioane Criaova – and the fitting of an E-class freighter interior that features a 9g bulkhead, cargo handling equipment, smoke detection systems, a loadmaster seat and a strengthened floor.

Around 30 BAe 146QT freighters were originally made from new on the manufacturer’s production line, and almost all remain in service with carriers such as Australian Air Express and TNT Airways.
