Airliner net orders came in at 173 in December as 218 new orders were offset by 45 cancellations, with another 24 swaps.

Highlights in December - China’s United Eagle Airlines ordered 30 COMAC ARJ21 regional jets while American Eagle Airlines ordered 22 Bombardier CRJs. LAN Airlines placed an order for 20 Airbus A320s, Turkish Airlines (THY) 20 A319s and China Eastern Airlines ordering 16 A330s. Air new Zealand and LAN Airlines ordered ten A320s and ten A319s respectively. The major cancellation of the month came from Brasil Rodo Aereo with 20 Embraer 195s. Virgin Nigeria swapped seven Embraer 170s for seven 190s while Virgin Atlantic Airways swapped six Airbus A340s for six A330s.

Airbus totalled 82 new orders in December while Boeing followed with 59. In the regional market, COMAC received 30 orders with Bombardier 26, Embraer 11 and ATR with seven orders.

A total of 64 A320 family aircraft orders were placed during the month (31 A319s and 33 A320s) while Boeing received orders for 32 737s. Widebody orders totalled 45 as 18 A330s, 11 787s, six 777s, five 767s and five 747s came in. The major regional jet orders were for the 30 ARJ21s from United Eagle Airlines and for 26 CRJs.

Overall, the order backlog for airliners ended December at 7,831, up 19 on the previous month.
