No survivors are expected after an Antonov An-28 reportedly crashed while attempting to land following a domestic flight from Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname, today.
The aircraft is said to have been operated by Paramaribo-based regional carrier Blue Wing Airlines, and carrying around 20 passengers and crew.
It was attempting to land near Benzdorp in the east of Suriname, near the border with French Guiana, when the crash occurred.
Just a few months ago, in November 2007, Blue Wing was removed from the European Union’s airline blacklist having featured on it since June 2006.
Blue Wing has a fleet of around five An-28s, a high-wing twin-turboprop with a dual vertical fin. The aircraft is built under licence in Poland by PZL-Mielec.
Flight’s ACAS database shows that Blue Wing’s aircraft are all around 18 years old and owned by the airline.
