Frontier Airlines hopes to launch Embraer E-190 flights with Gogo Wi-Fi service once it receives a supplemental type certificate (STC) from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The carrier told Air Transport Intelligence that it expects to receive the STC soon, with the first aircraft providing the service within one month of the approval. Gogo has been installed on some E-190s for testing, according to Frontier.

The Denver-based airline is a subsidiary of Republic Airways Holdings, and E-190 flights under the Frontier brand name are operated by fellow-subsidiary Republic Airlines.

Frontier had originally announced in April 2010 that Gogo would be installed on its fleet of E-170s and E-190s by the end of 2010.

Since then, however, Republic revealed plans to shift the Embraer E-170 aircraft from Frontier service to flying for mainline carriers such as Delta Air Lines.
