The German air force has taken delivery of its first four Eurofighter Typhoons equipped for air-to-ground attack duties.
The aircraft were handed over to Fighter Bomber Wing 31 (FBW31) at its base in Nörvenich, in North Rhine Westphalia, where they will replace the unit's Panavia Tornados by the end of June 2010.
The new Eurofighters are expected to be fully operational with all-weather GBU-48 laser-guided bombs and a laser designator pod by 2012.

FBW31 is the third German air force unit to get Eurofighters, after the Rostock-Laage based Fighter Wing 73 (May 2004) and Neuburg-Donau-based Fighter Wing 74 (July 2006).
