Greenlandair has taken delivery of a Boeing 757, its first jet airliner, which was scheduled to begin operations in competition with SAS on scheduled services between Greenland and Copenhagen from 12 May.

The Nuuk-based airline already operates only two de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otters and four Bombardier de Havilland Dash 7s, a fleet it intends to maintain while considering further additions. "We're not getting rid of anything-perhaps later we will add more," says the airline.

The 757 is a six-year-old ex-Airtours International Rolls-Royce RB211-powered model, which has been purchased from the Irish-based leasing company Sunrock.

The aircraft will be based in Copenhagen and will alternate between routes to the Greenland cities of Kangerlussuaq and Narsarsuaq "every second day".
