German maintenance provider Hamburg International Technik (HIT) plans to invest €2.2 million ($2.9 million) in its hangar at Friedrichshafen Airport to offer C checks from 2012.
At the moment, the company conducts line maintenance up to A checks for parent charter carrier Hamburg Airways as well as third-party customers such as Germania and Aer Lingus.
Approval to undertake C checks for Airbus A320 family and current-generation Boeing 737 aircraft is expected in early 2012.
HIT wants to increase the number of technical staff from 20 to about 60 employees and invest €2.2 million in tools, other equipment and spares.
Negotiations with potential third-party customers for C check work are ongoing, the company said.
The firm moved into the 2,300m² (24,760ft²) one-bay hangar near Lake Constance in January 2010, when it was still a subsidiary of Hamburg International Airways, which became insolvent in October that year.
Hamburg Airways was founded as a successor company a month later, and operations began in late March 2011.
The carrier now has a CFM International CFM56-5B-powered fleet of two A319s and one A320, according to Flightglobal's ACAS database.
