Flight International online news 11:30GMT: New Indian low-cost carrier Go Air has launched revenue passenger operations with an inaugural service today from Mumbai to Ahmedabad.
An official in the Mumbai office of the airline’s managing director says Go Air had its first flight this morning and it was a return service from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, followed by a return service from Mumbai to Goa.
Later today there will be a return service from Mumbai to Coimbatore.
“Today there will be a total of six [one-way] flights,” says the official.
Privately owned Go Air is providing initial services using a single Airbus A320 on short-term lease.
A second A320 is due to be added between 12 November and 14 November.
According to the airline’s website its schedule will consist of a daily service on each of its first three routes but on 12 November the frequency of Mumbai-Goa and Mumbai-Ahmedabad services will increase.
On 30 October Go Air had a non-revenue flight from Mumbai to Goa but today’s from Mumbai to Ahmedabad was the first commercial service.
Go is one of several new low-fare airlines to have launched services in India this year, others being Kingfisher and SpiceJet.
