Iraq's government has approved an agreement under which it will acquire five Bombardier CSeries jets rather than additional CRJ900s.
The Iraqi transport ministry confirms the agreement, indicating that it includes an option to take another five of the type.
Iraq's government ordered up to 10 CRJ900s in 2008, aircraft which became embroiled in a Kuwaiti-driven dispute over war reparations.
While a number of these have been delivered to Iraqi Airways, the carrier indicated earlier this year that it was discussing a swap for the CSeries.
Iraq's transport ministry says the government has authorised a new contract with Bombardier which effectively implements this exchange. It puts the agreed cost of the CS300s at $40 million each.
