Swiss business aviation services specialist Jet Aviation has won the competition to operate a new fixed base operation (FBO) at Germany's Düsseldorf International airport.
The company was among five competitors fighting to gain construction rights for a new executive terminal at the airport. The company received approval from airport operators late last year and started construction a few days ago. Jet Aviation expects the FBO to be completed and fully operational by the end of May.
Düsseldorf currently has two full FBOs, operated by Swissport and Aviation Handling Service. Jet Aviation offers executive handling from its maintenance hangar at the airport.
Düsseldorf International is now facing competition from Düsseldorf Weeze airport (formerly Niederrhein) for business aviation traffic and airport authorities faced down environmentalist protests to clear planning permission for further business aviation terminal space at the airport.
“The investment in a new facility will certainly help us to serve the growing business aviation traffic at the Düsseldorf airport better,” says Johannes Turzer, Jet Aviation general manager at Düsseldorf.
The new two-story will feature immigration and customs clearance; lounges and conference rooms.
Jet Aviation Düsseldorf is an authorised service centre for the Cessna Citation series, Raytheon aircraft Beech series, the Premier I and the Hawker 400 XP as well as for the Embraer ERJ-135 Legacy and Avanti Piaggio P180.
Düsseldorf is the third Jet Aviation site in Germany in addition to Hanover and Kassel.
