New York-based JetBlue Airways plans to add another three new international destinations by end-2015.

The three new points include Mexico City, for which the airline recently filed for US Department of Transportation (DOT) approvals to begin flights to, JetBlue’s vice-president of network planning Dave Clark tells Flightglobal.

He declines to be more specific on where else the airline plans to fly to among the new international destinations.

JetBlue wants to operate to Mexico City from both Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, and is hoping to begin those flights on or about June 2015.

“We are early on in the process,” says Clark. He explains that US DOT approval must be obtained before the airline can apply to the Mexican authorities. JetBlue would then have to speak with Mexico City airport regarding slots for the routes.

The airline expects a mix of business, leisure and visiting friends and relatives traffic on the new routes to Mexico City, says Clark.
