KLM has bid farewell to its last Fokker 50 following its final commercial flight as part of the KLM Cityhopper fleet.

The Fokker 50 services kicked off on 23 July 1990. At the time, former KLM chief executive A J Leyer spoke of his contentment at the continuation of the Fokker and KLM partnership saying: "We have acquired this aircraft because it is best suited to our main goal - to transport business people by air."

KLM Cityhopper eventually ordered 10 of the aircraft and operated a fleet of 15, but has gradually phased out its 50-seat turboprop in favour of jets. Today its fleet consists of Fokker 70s, Fokker 100s and Embraer 190s.
