Two leading business aviation airports in the US and the UK have joined forces to develop and support business aircraft transportation between their countries' major financial and commercial centres.

Senior executives from London Biggin Hill and Teterboro airport, in New York's metropolitan area, signed a memorandum of understanding on 13 August to "provide a platform for international co-operation and customer service, geared exclusively to business and corporate aviation".

Teterboro and Biggin Hill are within 20km of New York and London respectively and are regarded as international gateway airports to their respective cities.

"The USA is recognised as a market leader in the sector and Teterboro is the leading airport," says Biggin Hill airport chairman, Andrew Walters.

"There is much for us to learn, such as minimising disturbance to the local community whilst meeting the growing needs of the customer," he adds.

Bill Baroni, deputy executive director for Teterboro owner, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, says: "Teterboro has much to offer and gain from this special sister airport relationship. The agency looks forward to broadening its relationship with London's aviation, commercial and financial entities, which hopefully will foster learning and economic growth both here and aboard."
