Italian engineering company Mecaer Aviation Group (MAG) is seeking to expand into the business aircraft completions and refurbishment market and may use this month’s NBAA Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition in Las Vegas as a launch pad for the new venture.

Borgomanero-headquartered MAG is already a significant player in the business and general aviation market, both as an MRO provider and supplier of major systems for a range of fixed wing aircraft and helicopters.

MAG provides the landing gear for the AgustaWestland AW109 Grand, AW119, AW139, the Bell 412, 429 and 525 helicopters; the Eclipse 500/550 and the Diamond D-Jet. The company also manufactures and assembles the nose landing gear assemblies for the Gulfstream G650, G550 and G450 on behalf of Goodrich. Other contracts include supplying the flight controls and cabin interiors for AgustaWestland’s entire civil helicopter line-up - including the new AW169 and the top-of-the-range AW101 - the Mercedes Benz-branded Eurocopter EC145 and the oil and gas passenger transportation interior for the 525. To date, MAG has completed more than 900 rotor wing aircraft in different versions – from emergency medical services and law enforcements to corporate and VVIP, it says.

"We have gained a lot of experience in the completions market having worked for years on a number of major helicopter programmes," adds MAG marketin and sales consultant Massimo Isidori. "We have a lot to offer the business aviation completions market given our highly-skilled teams across out bases [in Vergiate Italy, Philadelphia, USA and in Yeovil, UK]."

The company hopes to open a dialogue with major airframers to provide new cabin designs and interiors for now business jets. "We would also like to offer cabin refurbishment on existing types. With our MRO expertise, we can offer a turnkey solution for business aircraft owners," says Isidori.
