Balkan carrier Macedonian Airlines (MAT) is introducing a pair of Boeing 737-500 aircraft, the first of which has been delivered to the operator.

Both twin-jets were formerly in the fleet of South Africa’s Nationwide Airlines.

The first, which has already been delivered, has serial number 25249 and carries the registration Z3-AAH. It has been repainted in MAT colours and will operate routes from Skopje to Dusseldorf, Rome and Zurich.

MAT says it is “responding to passenger and destination demand” by expanding its fleet. The carrier is due to take delivery of a second 737-500, number 25418, next week.

UK-based Cabot Aviation has arranged the transactions for both aircraft.

It plans to broaden its network to cities in Germany and northern Italy. MAT’s fleet also includes a Bombardier CRJ900.
