The US National Transportation Safety Board has dispatched a team to Colorado to investigate the crash of a Bombardier Challenger 601-3R at Aspen-Pitkin county airport on 5 January.

The co-pilot of the large-cabin business jet – registration N115WF – was killed in the incident, which happened at 12:22 local time. Two other occupants of the twinjet, which had flown from Toluca, Mexico, were injured, one severely.
According to early reports, the Mexican pilot aborted his first landing attempt due to severe wind shear. The crash occurred during the second landing attempt.
Alex Burchetta, director of operations for the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office, says: "The plane went off the right side of the runway, flipped over and burst into flames."
