The Aeroparque downtown airport in Buenos Aires is set to reopen gradually to commercial airline operations after remaining closed for runway and terminal construction work for four weeks.

Beginning on the evening of 1 December, regional airlines such as Sol Lineas Aereas, Andes, Uruguay's Pluna and BQB Air, whose operations had been transferred to the El Palomar airfield during the closure, were allowed to resume operations at Aeroparque.

According to a spokesman for Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 (AA 2000), the operator of both Buenos Aires Aeroparque and Ezeiza International airports, "a gradual return to operations has been agreed with the airlines, to ensure a smooth transition".

The mainline carriers, principally Aerolineas Argentinas, Austral and LAN Argentina, as well as Brazil's TAM had to temporarily operate their domestic and regional international flights from Ezeiza since early November. The simultaneous transfer of all operations to a newly inaugurated terminal area in Ezeiza caused operational chaos and numerous flight cancellations and delays during the first days, which the airlines and AA2000 now want to avoid.

The AA2000 source says that "LAN and the international carriers [TAM] will return on 2 December to Aeroparque while Aerolineas [including its domestic subsidiary Austral] will do so on Friday [3 December]."
