EADS' French aerostructure subsidiary Aerolia has partnered with Canada's national research council NRC to explore new production processes for metallic and composite airframe components.

Both sides have signed a five-year agreement to jointly develop processes, including advanced machining, at NRC's research facility in Montreal.

Aerolia is building an assembly line for the centre fuselage of the future Bombardier Global 7000/8000 business jet in Mirabel.

The work with Aerolia will "turn research and development needs and ideas into technology-based solutions, and help enhance Canada's aerospace position on the world stage", says John McDougall, NRC's president.

The research institute has been collaborating with EADS and its predecessor companies on various projects for nearly 25 years.
