Canadian flight simulator provider CAE delivered a suite of AgustaWestland EH101 training simulators to Marina Militare Italiana's (MMI) Luni air base in Sarzana, Italy.

The simulators are now being installed and tested in advance of the expected ready-for-training milestone in September.

Under subcontract to AgustaWestland, CAE designed an EH101 full-mission flight simulator (FMFS) and an EH101 rear crew trainer (RCT) for the MMI.

"The EH101 FMFS is a high-end military version of a full-flight simulator and features an exact replica of the EH101 maritime helicopter cockpit," said CAE.

The simulator includes a 220° x 60° collimated visual system with the CAE Medallion-6000 image generator to surround the flightcrew in a realistic maritime environment.

"The simulator provides a complete training environment enabling students to rapidly become familiar with the EH101 cockpit layout as well as practise cockpit procedures, night-vision goggle training, ship deck landing and tactical mission training," said CAE.

The EH101 RCT is an anti-surface/anti-submarine warfare training device used to teach tactical crews in the operation of all sensors, avionics and software systems in the aircraft.

"The sonar and radar rear crew trainer for the EH101 helicopter is designed to provide integrated facilities for the preparation, delivery and assessment of initial to advanced continuation training for sensor operators and controllers flying the MMI's EH101 helicopter," it added.

CAE said that the EH101 RCT is designed to "satisfy training objectives associated with analysis, classification and localisation undertaken via scenario-driven maritime tactical exercises.

The EH101 FMFS and RCT can be networked to offer a fully immersive and realistic mission training environment for the MMI's EH101 pilots and sensor operators, added CAE.
