Honeywell’s civilian LASEREF VI inertial navigation system has been certificated for use on the AgustaWestland AW101 transport helicopter.

The system will be available to all future and in-service operators from 2016, and relies on laser gyro technology to offer greater navigational accuracy, and can be used in combined GPS/INS modes or inertial-only mode for when satellite coverage is not available.

“Operators who select the platform will benefit from precise flying approaches not previously possible, and pilots will be able to achieve accurate positioning data and maximize safety during operations,” says Honeywell Aerospace vice-president of defence and space international Steve Lien
