Queensland-based regional airline MacAir Airlines is set to be the first Australian carrier to operate the ATR42-500 when it takes delivery of one aircraft later this quarter.

The airline currently operates Fairchild Metro IIIs and 23s and recently added two Saab 340Bs to the fleet. The airline has yet to identify which routes the ATR42 will serve. The airline serves 36 destinations in regional Queensland and provides fly-in, fly-out services for the mining industry.
