Qatar Airways is to start direct connections to Phuket this winter, building on its existing one-stop service to the Thai destination via Kuala Lumpur.

The airline, which began the daily one-stop Phuket connection in 2010, will serve Phuket thrice-weekly from 26 October. It will add a fourth direct weekly connection on the route in mid-December.

The Oneworld carrier will deploy Airbus A330 on the route. “A dedicated non-stop Phuket service will help meet the growing demand the airline has for this particular destination," says Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker. "Moreover, Europe is an extremely popular destination for a number of Thailand-based locals as well."
