The Queensland government is at the show talking about its new flagship aerospace centre of excellence – Aviation Australia.

The organisation is a government A$10 million ($5 million) initiative to establish a one-stop centre to build the specialist skills necessary for aviation to grow in Queensland.

"Brisbane is rapidly growing into a major international hub, with Qantas, Boeing Australia, Virgin Blue, National Jet Systems and EADS all choosing to set up operations in Brisbane," says Aviation Australia chief executive Paul Bredereck at the show.

"Only last week the Queensland government approved A$5.2 million to construct a brand new training centre as part of the centre of excellence at Brisbane City Airport, providing direct airport access for the training aircraft."

Aviation Australia is initially concentrating on providing basic maintenance training to the new Australian CASR part 66, and already has 100 students enrolled in the full-time courses.

The aim is to offer advanced type training with Embraer EMB 120-8, Fokker F100 and Boeing 737 aircraft, as well as tailored training programmes including cabin crew, management and university qualifications.
