Australia's Regional Express (Rex) plans to start a non-stop service between the Queensland cities of Mount Isa and Townsville from 31 January 2010.

It will be operated eight times a week on a Saab 340 aircraft, says the airline.

Rex recently won a contract from the Queensland state government to operate two routes in the state.

One of them is a thrice-weekly Mount Isa-Townsville service via Julia Creek, Richmond and Hughenden, which will commence on 1 February 2010.

The non-stop service will complement this route, says Rex's general manager for network strategy and sales Warrick Lodge.
