Calgary-based low-cost carrier WestJet Airlines has revealed details of its new east Canadian operation, based in Hamilton, Ontario. Launch routes will serve Thunder Bay and Winnipeg from 9 March, with Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax to be added by mid-2000. Sabena has added the Slovenian capital Ljubljana to its network, with the introduction of a daily return flight from Brussels which is operated by subsidiary DAT using an Avro RJ85. Sabena has also begun serving Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. There are now two weekly flights by Sabena Boeing 737-300s between Brussels and Kiev under a codeshare programme. Oneworld alliance partners American Airlines and Cathay Pacific Airways have concluded a comprehensive codeshare agreement which they hope to introduce by the middle of this year, pending governmental approvals. The codeshares include American on Cathay flights between the USA and Hong Kong, and on Cathay's intra-Asian services from Hong Kong. Cathay's code will appear on American US domestic services beyond Cathay's US gateway cities, as well as flights between the USA and various Latin American points. The current USA-Hong Kong air transport agreement does not specifically authorise codesharing between US and Hong Kong carriers, but formal negotiations over a revision will take place in Hong Kong in April. TAP Air Portugal will begin its new Lisbon-London Gatwick services on 6 February. The flights will operate daily except Saturday. Delta Air Lines will begin codeshares in the second quarter on four Air France transatlantic flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle - from Atlanta, Philadelphia Boston and Cincinnati. British Airways franchisee Sun-Air of Scandinavia will begin daily Billund-Berlin services in late March. Humberside-based Eastern Airways will begin twice daily services from Norwich to Glasgow and Manchester from 7 February.
