Russia’s federal transport supervisory authority is to carry out in-depth checks on budget carrier SkyExpress after uncovering potential safety problems during an unscheduled airworthiness inspection.
The Russian ministry of transport says the inspections were carried out between 29 November and 6 December last year.
It states that the audit “found concealment of events that threaten safety”. The ministry has not given any further details or specified the nature of the findings.
But it says the supervisory authority, FSNT, has extended its checks on the carrier to 20 January.
The airline could not immediately be reached to comment on the ministry’s statement.
SkyExpress began operating a year ago and uses a fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft on domestic services from Moscow Vnukovo Airport.
Its route network includes St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Tyumen, Sochi, Rostov, Perm, Murmansk and Kaliningrad. SkyExpress is also planning to open new connections to Volgograd, Samara, Chelyabinsk and Krasnodar.
