The image above shows an artist's concept of a basic design for the proposed SRB-X unmanned launch vehicle. The vehicle would utilise the Space Shuttle's recoverable solid rocket boosters, but not its Orbiter or external tank. The SRB-X could deliver payloads of up to 29,500kg (65,000lb) to a 241km (150mile) orbit or 7,200kg to a geosynchronous 35,900km orbit. The vehicle was studied by Boeing under a NASA Marshall Space Flight Center contract.
