US carrier Sun Country Airlines this week is starting to offer the digEcor portable digEplayer L7 on flights three hours or longer, and also plans to feature the devices on new seasonal service to London Gatwick from Minneapolis beginning 27 May.

The carrier is offering the hand-held devices complimentary to first class passengers and for $6 fee for customers travelling in coach.

The new 7in L7 offers touch screen technology for customers opting for in-flight entertainment with options including 10 Hollywood movies, television programming, music, music videos and games.

Other customers for the digEplayer L7 include Azerbaijan Airlines, Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium, Danish charter carrier Jet Time and United-Continental.

This is the second year Sun Country has offered transatlantic seasonal flights to the London metro area. In 2010 the carrier operated service to London Stansted airport, offering the digEplayer XT on those flights .

Sun Country explains the success of the digEplayer programme and the features of the L7 led to its decision to upgrade its in-flight entertainment equipment.
