Shareholders in tour operator TUI Travel have overwhelmingly approved the acquisition of 60 Boeing 737 Max aircraft.

The company is planning to take 40 Max 8s and 20 Max 9s to renew its single-aisle fleet.

TUI Travel is also holding options and purchase rights on another 90 737s.

The company says shareholders "duly passed" the resolution covering the proposed acquisition during a general meeting on 9 July.

Deliveries of the twinjets are due to begin in January 2018 and run to March 2023.
