A long queue formed at AlliedSignal's stand yesterday - and it didn't take long to find out why.

Aviation legend General Charles 'Chuck' Yeager, the first man to go supersonic, was signing autographs, and everybody wanted to meet the man for whom the phrase 'the right stuff' was coined.

Experimental

Yeager became the first man officially to break the sound barrier when his rocket-powered Bell X-1 experimental aircraft was dropped from a Boeing B-29 Superfortress over the Californian desert almost exactly 50 years ago.

And he did it with several cracked ribs as he had fallen off a horse the night before!

Yeager will be signing autographs at the AlliedSignal stand (Hall 4, Stand F8) today between 11.30am and 12.15pm.
