Aer Lingus has advised shareholders not to respond to the latest attempt by Ryanair to acquire the Irish flag-carrier.

Shares in Aer Lingus surged by 25%, to around €1.16, as the markets opened on 20 June following Ryanair's disclosure the previous day.

Ryanair is offering €1.30 per share to take over airline, its third bid to acquire the Dublin-based carrier.

Aer Lingus says it will "make a statement in due course" but adds: "Aer Lingus shareholders are urged to take no action."
