Air France Industries and KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) has inked a strategic partnership agreement with Indian-based MRO unit Max Aerospace.

With this agreement, AFI will be able to provide significant component repair capability "on the doorsteps" of its customers on the Indian sub-continent, says AFI KLM E&M.

The Indian facility jointly developed with Max Aerospace will allow AFI KLM E&M to position itself in an emerging and sizeable market, it adds.

Franck Terner, president of AFI says: "This new partnership illustrates the growing importance of our global MRO network, built to operate as closely as possible to our existing and prospective customers. We will have the support of local entities that will be called on to deploy locally the sort of performance which we are permanently developing in our network in France and the Netherlands."

Bharat Malkani, chairman and managing director of Max Aerospace, says: "This partnership with AFI KLM E&M will help us to achieve our component support ambitions, and to have the resources to stay abreast of the vigorous growth on our market."

Mumbai-based Max Aerospace was founded in 1994 and provides engineering support to several airlines based in India and the Middle East. It supports around 150 aircraft operated by Indian domestic carriers.
