Algerian flag-carrier Air Algerie has opted for the Boeing 737-800 to meet single-aisle requirements under the airline's fleet-modernisation programme.
The airline has committed to eight of the twinjets, which are powered by CFM International CFM56 engines.
Boeing confirms the tentative agreement. It says the deal has yet to be finalised, but values it at $724 million at catalogue prices.
Air Algerie had been seeking eight single-aisle jets in the 150-seat category as part of its fleet renewal strategy, which covers 16 aircraft.
It has already selected the Airbus A330 for its long-haul 250-seat needs.
Air Algerie chief Mohamed Salah Boultif says the 737-800 remains the "backbone" of the Algiers-based carrier's fleet, which includes 17 of the type as well as five 737-600s.
"So far, we are pleased with these aircraft, and anticipate receiving all eight of these new units before the end of 2016," he says.
Air Algerie is also planning to acquire two dedicated freighters as well as three 70-seat regional aircraft.
