Air Berlin plans to install WheelTug electric taxi systems on 63 Airbus A320-family jets and 37 Boeing 737s.

The German carrier and Gibraltar-headquartered equipment developer have signed a letter of intent covering supply of the nose wheel drive system, which is intended to enable pilots to taxi from the gate to the runway without powering up the engine.

WheelTug aims to certify the system by year-end.
