Air Canada today said it plans to inaugurate three new weekly flights from Calgary to Tokyo Narita airport beginning 27 March ahead of the peak summer travel season in North America.

Carrier COO Ben Smith explains the seasonal fights are the first steps in Air Canada's plans to build the market up to offer year-round, daily flights.

Smith says the flights offer connections through Air Canada's Star Alliance partners for Albertans to key destination in Asia including Hong Kong, Manila, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok, Taipei and several points across Japan.

Air Canada is using refurbished 211-seat Boeing 767-300ER aircraft on the route featuring an Executive First service with 24 lie-flat bed suites.
