Air New Zealand will collaborate with Zephyr Airworks to bring Kitty Hawk’s Cora automonous electric air taxi to market in New Zealand.
The Star Alliance carrier’s says that the agreement starts a long-term relationship with Zephyr, which is looking to use Cora in New Zealand to launch the world’s first autonomous air taxi services. Further details of the level of co-operation were, however, not disclosed.
“We’ve been impressed with Zephyr Airworks’ innovative and considered approach and our core values are aligned when it comes to delivering reliable, convenient and sustainable air travel that will benefit all New Zealanders,” says Air NZ chief executive Christopher Luxon.
US based Kitty Hawk unveiled the vertical take-off and landing Cora was unveiled around six months ago, and in partnership with Zephyr is working to certify it and launch commercial services.
Air NZ has shown strong interest in new aircraft technologies. During an investor presentation last year, the carrier signalled its interest in potentially acquiring electric-powered aircraft in the future to operate on regional routes.
