Canadian holiday travel carrier Air Transat has selected GuestLogix's so-called 'OnTouch' retail technology and merchandising platform to bolster its ancillary revenue streams.

The multi-year agreement calls for GuestLogix to provide point-of-sale (POS) handheld devices to support onboard sales across Air Transat's fleet, and begin deployment of OnTouch travel-relevant, destination-based products and services.

In addition, GuestLogix is to provide tools "to create, manage and control a more comprehensive branded onboard store that can be accessed both in the air and on the ground through Air Transat's current distribution channels", says the firm.

Other details are expected to be released in the coming months.

Air Transat carries some 3 million passengers annually to nearly 60 destinations in 25 countries. It operates a fleet of Airbus A330s and A310s.

Initial rollout of the GuestLogix programme will likely be focused on Air Transat's European and Mexican destinations, according to the firms.

"Air Transat presents an ideal scenario to fully deploy OnTouch across the entire airline as leisure travelers are more emotionally predisposed to spending on their trip," says GuestLogix president and CEO Tom Douramakos.

Adds GuestLogix "It's our experience that leisure travelers are the highest ancillary revenue per passenger trip generators for airlines. Air Transat now has the opportunity to create a branded onboard store with a global reach that will drive new revenue streams and help each passenger get more out of their trip."
