Airbus has confirmed the identity of the EgyptAir aircraft which lost contact over the eastern Mediterranean while operating a Paris-Cairo service.

It says the International Aero Engines V2500-powered aircraft was registered SU-GCC, and had logged some 48,000h since being delivered to the Egyptian flag-carrier in November 2003.

“At this time no further factual information is available,” says the airframer.

Airbus says it is prepared to assist the investigating authorities with inquiries into the disappearance.

EgyptAir stresses that the reason for the aircraft’s loss of contact has not been confirmed.
