Airbus has opened a €39 million ($54 million) A350 XWB landing gear systems test facility in the UK at Filton.

The site will house landing gear test rigs, an avionics suite with test benches, a control room from which tests can be co-ordinated and a parts store. It will be used for the specification, procurement, aircraft integration and certification of landing gear and associated systems for all Airbus aircraft.

An initial staff of around 30 employees will be in place when tests using the rigs start in mid-2011.
