American Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines Systems (SAS) have placed major orders with Telair International's baggage conveyor belt subsidiary.

The AA deal, with Scandinavian Bellyloading (Stand D128), covers the installation of 120 sliding carpet loading systems in the airline's operating and new Boeing 757s. The systems are designed to move baggage within the cargo hold, thus reducing the number of baggage handlers needed to load and unload.

SAS wants the systems installed in its fleet of new Boeing 737-600 aircraft. Work is due to start in August.

Meanwhile, Telair International is to supply two main deck cargo handling system conversion kits to Daimler-Benz Aerospace Airbus for use by the German air force, and cargo handling systems for two new Cargolux B747-400F freighters.

Customers who wish to see these cargo handling systems in action can now do so at Telair International's newly-opened test site based at Mojave Airport in California.
