ST Aerospace Aircraft Seats is displaying its new SPACElite seat at the show, happy in the knowledge that deliveries to the first customer will take place in just a few months’ time. The initial shipset of the medium-haul seat will be handed over in the third quarter of the year to an Asian carrier for a retrofitting programme on its Airbus A320 fleet.

Although SPACElite has been shown in Hamburg before, the company’s vice-president/general manager Kham Joon Wui confirms that this year’s display has undergone a series of refinements.

“Being designed for medium-haul, we are showing the seat in a 32in pitch, with and without embedded IFE systems,” Kham says. “We have a recline capability including a carefully placed pivot point and, for added comfort and less disruption to the passenger behind, the seat pan slides forward when reclining. Even with all that, the seat only weighs around 10kg.”

As entry into service approaches, and with airlines requiring different upholstery, Kham confirms that specific vendors have been selected for each types of seat cover material.

ST Aerospace Aircraft Seats is a joint venture set up in 2015 between ST Aerospace and Tenryu Holdings, the latter being renowned for train and bus seat designs. The partners have a fully integrated team performing design, certification and finally production at the JV’s Singapore base.
