"Eligible parties" that submitted bids to buy a stake in Alitalia are to be sent procedure letters on 26 June.

The Italian carrier says the letters will give bidders "access to the data room, with the necessary information in order to submit their nonbinding proposals".

It adds: "On the basis of those proposals, the special commissioners will evaluate and define the programme of the extraordinary administration."

The proposals must be presented to Alitalia no later than 21 July.

In May, the SkyTeam airline was offered for sale by its government-appointed commissioners after being placed in special administration.

The deadline for initial expressions of interest was 5 June.
