Oneworld alliance member American Airlines next month plans to start installing prototypes on some of its 757s as part of midlife avionics upgrade initiative (MAUI) designed to enable the airline to operate in any next-generation air traffic control system across the globe.
“There will be several prototypes prior to the actual modification start-up and the actual mod work is scheduled to begin at the end of October or first of November,” says an American spokeswoman.
Prototype installations of the avionics upgrade on some of American’s 767-300s are scheduled to start in December and “will go through one or two prototypes before the modification,” the spokeswoman says.
A winglet modification is also planned in conjunction with the avionics upgrade on the 767-300s.
Flight’s ACAS database shows American flies 129 Boeing 757-200s and 58 767-300ERs.
All the work is being handled by American in-house at the carrier’s Kansas City, Missouri maintenance base.
