Japan's All Nippon Airways (ANA) plans to have a code-sharing agreement with the United Arab Emirates' Etihad Airways from 1 March 2010.

It has applied to the Japanese Government for regulatory approval to do so, say the two airlines.

Under the agreement, ANA will place its code on Etihad's flights between Abu Dhabi and Nagoya, which are planned to start from 1 February 2010.

Etihad will in turn place its code on ANA's flights between Nagoya and both Sapporo and Fukuoka, add the airlines.

The code-sharing agreement will be extended from 28 March 2010, after Etihad starts its Abu Dhabi-Tokyo Narita service.

ANA will code-share on this route and Etihad will place its code on ANA's Tokyo Narita-Osaka Itami service.
