Just over a month after being named as the new chief executive and chairman of Austrian Airlines, Thierry Antinori has decided not to take up the role.

Antonori was due to take the helm at the Lufthansa Group subsidiary on 1 April, but the carrier today says that he "shall not be assuming the position" because of "career plans outside the Lufthansa Group".

Former joint chiefs Andreas Bierwirth and Peter Malanik - who were due to become chief commercial officer and chief operating officer of the carrier on 1 April - will now continue with their current responsibilities until a successor for Antonori is found.
