The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has postponed a hearing on the fatal July crash of an Asiana Airlines Boeing 777-200ER to December, due to the impact from the 16-day US government shutdown.
The two-day hearing on the 6 July crash at San Francisco International airport was initially supposed to take place in November.
As a result of the shutdown, the NTSB also delayed additional testing of an exemplar lithium ion battery in its investigation into the Boeing 787 battery issues, it adds.
The delays to the Asiana hearing and the battery testing are among several delays to investigations into transportation incidents that the NTSB is overseeing. The NTSB adds that it is continuing to assess the impact of the shutdown on the investigation into the 14 August crash of a UPS Airbus A300 in Birmingham, Alabama.
The NTSB re-opened on 17 October. During the shutdown, 383 of its 405 employees were furloughed, says the agency.
