Northrop Grumman is integrating its STARLite radar onto Navmar's Tigershark unmanned air vehicle for use by the US Navy and the US Special Operations Command (SOCOM).

The company has just begun integration, says Northrop, with a demonstration flight planned in 2013.

The STARLite radar has already been integrated onto the AAI RQ-7 Shadow UAV. While neither integration is an official programme of record, both were requested by customers.

Northrop declined to name the relevant customer, but SOCOM is a heavy user of the RQ-7 and Tigershark aircraft.

The synthetic aperture radar payload is already being integrated onto the General Atomics Aeronautical Systems MQ-1C Grey Eagle, currently in use with the US Army. Northrop says that 87 of the radars have been delivered.
